Japanese Ju Jitsu - the original complete self defence based martial art

With over 300+ techniques in the syllabus Japanese Ju Jitsu is one of the most comprehensive self defence based martial arts there is

  • Two young girls practicing Japanese Ju-Jitsu in a martial arts dojo, one girl is helping the other learn a grappling technique, with other children practicing in the background.

    Throws

Throws and takedowns form a major part of the Ju Jitsu syllabus. Students are taught good technique and principles such as unbalancing to down an opponent.

  • Martial arts students practicing on blue mat, one man performing an elbow while an instructor blocks with a pad, all wearing traditional martial arts uniforms.

    Strikes

A key martial art skill is striking. Students learn to develop power and accuracy while maintaining a good defensive posture

  • Two young girls in martial arts uniforms with green belts, smiling and posing in a dojo with other children practicing martial arts in the background.

    Locks

Locks are used to restrain or incapacitate an opponent. There are a large number of locks that work in many situations. Locks typically use knowledge of anatomy and principles such as leverage.

  • A martial artist practicing with a bo staff in a gym, wearing a black uniform with patches and a red and white belt, on a blue mat.

    Weapons

From blue belt, adult students start to learn weapons. Taught in kata form, novices will learn Katana, Nunchuck, Sai, Bo staff and Tonfa

  • Two martial artists practicing Japanese Ju-Jitsu on a blue mat; one standing and applying a choke to the other lying on the mat, both wearing black gis with patches.

    Ground work

First rule of self defence: stay on your feet. Our ground work includes escaping from a range of ground attacks with a focus on getting up into a solid stance to defend yourself.

  • Children practicing Ju Jitsu in a dojo, wearing white gi uniforms with coloured belts, on blue mats.

    Kata

Kata are set sequences of stances, blocks, and strikes. They are great for improving technique allowing for better footwork and increased power. They are also good for clearing the mind.

  • Two men practicing martial arts on a blue padded floor in a gym, with one in a white gi lying on the floor and the other in a red shirt and black pants squatting.

    Breakfalls

Novices soon learn to fall and land safely. Not only does this ensure safe training, breakfalls can also prevent injury from slips and falls in everyday life.

  • Two martial artists practicing Jiu-Jitsu, with one in a black gi and the other in a white gi, on a blue mat in a training room.

    And much more....

Ju Jitsu isn’t just for self defence. It keeps you fit, it is great for socialising and making new friends, it builds self confidence in all age groups, and most of all…. it’s great fun!

Our syllabus is aimed at complete novices and beginners are always made to feel welcome.
